Education

Educating tomorrow's leaders has always been a top priority for our citizens. From preschool toddlers to retirees who wish to learn a new skill, our area schools continue to meet demands for a quality education.

The Parents-As-Teachers Program is available to the parents of all children ages one to four years old. This program is a great asset for preparing our children for elementary school. Once in the public school system, we nurture our children's progress. Each of our schools is staffed with a counselor, physical education teacher, art teacher, music teacher, librarian, and a full-time nurse.

The GATE (Gifted and Talented Expand) program is designed for accelerated students and we have Chapter 1 for the educationally disadvantaged. Our school district is dedicated to providing an appropriate education to all physically and mentally handicapped, and learning disabled children.

The high schools in Saline County provide a balance of required and elective courses in academic, fine/practical arts, and vocational studies. Advanced placement programs are also available to high school students through our local colleges. Whether you're an Owl, Greyhound, Tiger, or Wildcat, educators in Saline County strive for excellence and are dedicated to your development and success.

Marshall High School and Sweet Springs R-7 High are currently participating in the state funded A+ Program. Students who have met the established criteria will have the opportunity to attend any Community College, Vocational or Technical School full-time, with tuition, fees and books provided free of charge.

Students of Saline County schools also enjoy a variety of athletics and extracurricular programs that often qualify and place at state competitions. From a stellar swimming team and record breaking track stars, to a reknowned choir and nationally-ranked DECA chapter, students in Saline County have many opportunities to hone and excel at their skills.
